PROVINCE LIABLE FOR POTHOLE DAMAGE
AVONLEA, Sask. — Saskatchewan has lost a legal battle that may interest anyone who has ever spent much time driving the province’s highways.
The Highways Department has been ordered to pay a 74-year-old man $1,216.60 after the bottom of his car was ripped open by a giant pothole in November, 1999, on Hwy. 344, south of Avonlea, Sask.
Jack Elfenbaum, a retired farmer, was also awarded the costs of a tow truck, a night at a hotel and one ruined shirt.
